Wow, less than a week to the release of Devil May Cry!! Yes, I’m so excited. And best of all, St. Martins gave me the coolest gift! A video trailer for the book. We’re kicking off the tour at midnight next Monday in Ann Arbor, MI. The party begins at 10:30 PM, but no books can be sold until midnight. Leading up to the sale, we have lots of fun things planned. For one, you’ll be able to meet the voice actor who recorded Devil May Cry and Dark Side of the Moon. He’ll be reading a passage from Devil May Cry. We’re also having a costume contest where the winner will receive a bottle of Official Simi BBQ sauce, an advance copy of the Dark-Hunter companion AND a an advance copy of Acheron’s book once it’s finished! There will also be prizes for the second and third runners up, as well as t-shirts for everyone (as long as the supplies last).

We’ll have a ton of other goodies at the other stops as well. I know Jack has been answering a ton of emails from fans who are concerned that their cities aren’t listed. For that, we apologize. The tour cities and stores are chosen by the publisher and St Martins was kind enough to put me on an extended 18 city tour when most writers are only sent on a 7-8 city tour.

Both St Martins and I try our best to placate every reader we can, but please be aware that I’m only one person and I have three little boys who miss their mother when she’s gone. This tour has me on the road for almost three weeks solid and it’s hard on them and on me who hates to be away from her family for that long. Likewise, we were trying to be fair and visit areas I haven’t been seen in. I’m sorry that we’re not hitting every city in every state. But if I did that, I wouldn’t have time to finish writing Acheron’s books and I’m sure you guys would much rather have me doing that than signing. I deeply appreciate your understanding in this matter.

The other BIG appearance this month is DragonCon! My trusty assistant Jack will be running our booth which is #1006 in the Hilton Exhibitor’s Hall. We’ll have tons of Dark-Hunter merch to sell as well as giveaways and a drawing for an Advance Copy of the Companion. We’ll even have copies of the Warchild CD that has Ash’s song on it for sale.

Speaking of DragonCon. This year the fans are organizing a Dark-Hunter segment of the Saturday parade through downtown Atlanta. DBPRO TO ADAPT KINLEY MACGREGOR'S LORDS OF AVALON

Dabel Brothers Production ("DB Pro") announced today that they have just signed an exclusive contract with New York Times bestselling author Kinley MacGregor to adapt the first five novels in her highly anticipated fantasy and romance series, LORDS OF AVALON.

The deal was negotiated by the author’s agent, Merrilee Heifetz of Writers House, LLC.

LORDS OF AVALON: SWORD OF DARKNESS will be produced as a monthly 22-page comic starting this fall, with a script expertly penned by Roynne Gillespie (THE BURNING MAN) and illustrations by an artist soon to be announced. A graphic novel edition should be available in bookstores by Spring ’07.

SWORD OF DARKNESS, the first novel in the series, tells the story of a dark-hearted knight named Kerrigan who wields the demonic sword Caliburn, Excalibur’s polar opposite. Camelot has fallen to the forces of evil, and the knights of the round reside in Avalon, waiting for the birth of the one they call “Penmerlin,” a special person who will lead the lesser wizards of the realm. They select a young maiden named Seren to be the mother of this figure, but a “rescue” from Kerrigan results in her falling in love and eventually becoming pregnant with his child. Seren must choose between abandoning the evil knight and training her child in the path of light or staying with Kerrigan and attempting to help him turn away from the life he has chosen.

“We’re excited to be working with Kinley MacGregor to bring this story into the visual medium” said Les Dabel, Vice President of Dabel Brothers Production. “Ms. MacGregor is an extremely popular writer right now, and her name is synonymous with great storytelling. We think the LORDS OF AVALON books will be an excellent addition to our lineup, and we can’t wait to see the first issue hit the shelves!”

“I couldn't be more thrilled to be working with DB Pro since I've been a fan of the Dabel Brothers since they came onto the scene,” said Kinley MacGregor. “The quality of art and interpretation is second to none. I'm extremely honored to be added to their line-up. I'm a child of the graphic novel and in that field, DB Pro rules.”

One thing Les Dabel is particularly excited about is his company’s ability to reach an audience generally ignored by the comic book industry: women.

“Guys are into action and gore, and that’s generally what the comic book industry delivers,” explained Dabel. “But when you look at trends within the publishing industry, you see that the genres that appeal most to women tend to be the consistent bestsellers. I’ve always attributed this to the fact that women read more often than men, and they demand stories that actually bother to go beyond pure action and develop deep characters and relationships. In the world of comic books, it’s very hard for women who aren’t interested in superheroes or horror books to find much to read – there are some great indy books, sure, but there’s not a lot in the mainstream.”

“DB Pro is hoping to change that with books like LORDS OF AVALON and ANITA BLAKE: VAMPIRE HUNTER – we expect both titles will have heavy female readership due to the fact that they’re both originally from the romance genre. And while we’re certainly producing them to be fun for anyone who enjoys the theme, we want a diverse audience reading these books – and we’d especially like to offer something to the women out there who are cool enough to read comics, but not finding much that interests them right now.”

The publisher is ready to go back to print with subsequent print runs, but there will be delay in getting these into bookstores. Lots of great news to share! Sherri's out of print books, Daemon's Angel, Born of the Night, Born of Fire and Paradise City are going to be brought back into print! They're allowing Sherri to go back into the League series and change the names and events so that the series will finally be cohesive. After 12 years, the books will finally be published the way Sherri meant for them to be. Stay tuned for more details.

Likewise, this fall, SMP will issue a boxed set of the first three books in the Dark-Hunter series. And the covers for all of the backlist will be reissued. We'll post them as soon as we have them available.
